Note

School teacher, later worked at Michigan Millers Insurance.

Grandma Neder we called her. She moved to Flint and then to Lansing. Her Husband was killed in a train accident. She became a widow after 8 years of marriage and was left with a 4 year old -Margot. My mother raised me alone . She worked full time when a women's wages were meager ( poor ) . We survived together. Once my mother stabbed me with a fork because I was doing someting wrong at the table. She felt very bad about it later. We used to go every spring and pick flowers by Grand River at Francis Park. The year was 1938 and the depression was just beginning to fade. Times were not easy. They used to walk to Michigan Millers and go to Estelle's and eat. You could get baked beans for .12cents at the cafeteria. On Sundays they went to the Union at Michigan State and had very good dinners. During the Depression you could only drive 35 mph. Mother had a 39 plymouth and Margot stood all the way to ludington in the car. (just because she didn't want to sit) On Saturdays they washed clothes in the wringer and then they ironed them. On Saturday nights Margot slept over at Marlyn Sweeney's house. They went to the show for .12 cents every afternoon and her dad drove them all around. Then she worked as a school teacher, later worked at Michigan Millers Insurance. She lived in Lansing Mich. She frequently visited Ludington MI. in the summers. She loved the beach and walking in the state park. Buried in Lansing MI. The funniest story about Grandma was, once we were eating dinner in Ludington. We had pork chops for dinner, well Mark or Bill picked one up with their fingers and Grandma slapped their meat out of their hand, picked it up with HER fingers and said " you don't pick up the meat with your fingers" Grandma Neder was very proper you know. They would save their gas stamps during the depression to go to Ludington. Grandma lived with Margot for about 4 month when she got older, it was too much, she got very strong and forceful. She then went to a nursing home. She was a teacher in Ludington at Lonfellow school before she was married. Her friends were Maryella, Laura, Dora (who named her Neder) Clara Ship-Colley.
