Graudenz in Westpreußen Die Strafanstalt Graudenz diente nach der Besetzung durch die Sowjetarmee als Sammellager für deutsche Zivilisten, die von der Front überrollt worden und zum Teil aus Ostpreußen und aus den baltischen Staaten geflüchtet waren.

Die meisten Zivilisten- vor allem Frauen- wurden zum Arbeitseinsatz in die Sowjetunion verschleppt: am 6. April 1945 war ein Transport von 1.200 Frauen und 300 Männern nach Leninsk abgegangen. Mit einem Transport von Häftlingen aus Oppeln und weiteren Häftlingen aus dem Lager Tost und aus Ratibor wurde das Speziallager Graudenz im November 1945 in Betrieb genommen. Bis zur Aufgabe des Speziallagers Graudenz im Februar 1946- die etwa 2.500 Häftlinge wurden in die Lager Landsberg und Fünfeichen /Neubrandenburg verlegt- sollen 2.000 bis 4.800 Tote (Fleckfieberepidemie) zu verzeichnen gewesen sein, die man in Massengräbern im Hinterhof des Zuchthauses vergrub.*51

Das Zuchthaus wurde anschließend von polnischen Einheiten übernommen, die es neben der Festung und dem Militärgefängnis als Arbeits- und Sammellager für Deutsche benutzten, die letztlich nach Deutschland ausgewiesen wurden.
