Richard Edmund Rauhut, a retired aerospace engineer who worked on the first lunar landing vehicle project, has died in Canoga Park. He was 62.

Born Nov. 21, 1927, in Brookfield, Ill., Rauhut served as a pilot in the Navy for two years. He graduated with bachelor of science degrees in math and engineering from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Ind. He worked as an aerospace engineer for Hughes Aircraft Co. Space and Communications Group in El Segundo for 28 years, working on the U.S. Surveyor 1 and several communication satellites.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years; son Richard Rauhut of Port Hueneme; daughter Kathryn Rauhut of San Francisco; brother, the Rev. Donald Rauhut of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and a granddaughter.

A funeral is scheduled for noon today at Canoga Park Lutheran Church, 7357 Jordan Ave., with burial to follow at Oakwood Memorial Park in Chatsworth. Pierce Brothers Praiswater Mortuary in Canoga Park is handling the arrangements. Donations can be made in Rauhut's name to the Kenneth Norris Jr. Cancer Hospital, 1441 E. Lake Ave., Room 800, Los Angeles, 90033-0804.
