William Gray Bole was born January 7, 1834, probably in the town of Newport, County Mayo, Ireland. William married Henriette Devins, daughter of William Devins, head constable of Westport, on February 15, 1860. The marriage was performed by William Disney Roe, Rector and Viceroy in the parish church of Newport, Church of Ireland. Witnesses to the wedding were listed as Richard Gray and Matilda J. Boles. William Bole's occupation at the time was listed as an office clerk residing in Newport. William Bole may have arrived in the United States in 1867 and returned for his family in 1873 when the family is listed in the 1900 census as arriving in the United States. The family settled in San Francisco and by 1880, William owned his own drygoods business while Henriette apears to had owned a dress making business. In 1880 they were renting a house at 339 Minna St. Living with them and their two daughters and son was Susan May Henderson, whom they apparently raised after the death of her mother, Margaret Jane Bole (Henderson). William Bole died in Alameda on August 9, 1904, and Henriette died in San Francisco on November 28, 1912. Both are buried in the Cypress Lawn Cemetery, Colma, California.
